Do you remember, back when you were young, your family trips to the seaside? We certainly do – the sand (or more often where we were, stones) beneath your toes, the sun (or rain), the cheerful splash of warm seawater (the frigid, freezing shock of seawater) and the tasty ice creams (no argument there) are a fond part of our childhood memories. After a game of beach cricket or something similar, and an unsuccessful attempt at swimming in the rather cold sea and the inevitable making of sandcastles, the next step was the inflatable boat.
This was of course the cheapest of things possible – incredibly uncomfortable and no doubt rather non-air-tight – but that didn’t stop our enjoyment of heading out to sea, determined to explore the ocean waves as our parent frantically called for us to come back in. Why are we talking about this? Because an RIB is essentially a highly advanced and technologically developed inflatable boat. Perhaps those riding in them do not experience quite the same thrill as they head out to sea, though they are certainly better powered than by a single plastic oar, but we like to think that they do. If we could afford it, we would pick up a Rigid Inflatable Boat in an instant and head out to sea to explore new horizons, before heading home for supper. NB
